Metropolis Autumn 2026 “Earth” cover next to an open spread on Japanese pottery

Visual & Brand 2026

Metropolis Magazine

Metropolis is Japan's No. 1 English-language magazine, published free every season. I design the covers and lay out the issues.

Each issue is built around a theme, like "Earth" or "Japan, Island by Island", and the cover sets the tone with a single strong image under the Metropolis masthead.

Inside, the layouts change pace with the stories: a quiet, atmospheric opener for an artist profile, an interview laid out as a conversation, a guide to Tokyo's wildlife full of photos and fact boxes, a feature on traditional tattoos, and an essay on Japanese pottery. Promotional spreads, like the one for Takanawa Gateway City, are designed to sit naturally alongside the editorial pages.

Everything is laid out in InDesign, with the photos retouched and prepared in Photoshop.
